About Board Certification

After graduating from medical school, doctors who want to treat patients must complete an internship, residency and some additional medical education, and then pass a general exam to be licensed by the state where they intend to practice. As a board certified medical director doctors set the standard of care, treatment protocols, and ensure quality care through an on going quality assurance process.  Many medical directors, however, choose to become board certified in one or more specialty — like aesthetic medicine, long term care or skilled nursing facility management. This requires further, extensive specialty-specific training and passing an exam for each medical specialty once the physician has become board a board certified medical director.

The American Board of Medical Directorship (ABMD) is the recognized leader in developing and setting the gold standard for medical director certification and adhere to rigorous training and assessment standards.

Board Certification is a significant achievement that not all doctors attain. Board Certified Medical Directors:

  • Skilled and knowledgeable
  • Experts in their specialty
  • Meeting a higher standard
